Not Just Showing Your Belly --
Celebrating It
Maternity Dress Collection

All dresses at Studio Mozart are originals designed exclusively for maternity photo shoots.
Unlike standard maternity dresses, ours are conceived as "works of art": silhouettes that shine in monochrome, fabrics chosen to draw out the full contrast of light and shadow, and cuts designed to show the line of an expecting mother's belly at its most beautiful -- every detail considered for maternity photography as fine art.
Why Photography-
Specific Dresses Matter
Why Professional Dress Matters

Our philosophy for maternity photo dresses is simple: pursue beauty, and keep it pure.
Commercial maternity wear is built around the functional needs of everyday life. And most maternity dresses designed specifically for photography, in our view, lean heavily into Western-style aesthetics that can feel overdone.
With this in mind, we created our own original dresses made exclusively for maternity photo shoots: silhouettes that shine most beautifully in monochrome, fabrics that bring out the contrast of light and shadow, and cuts that show the line of the belly at its absolute best. Of course, they also work for color photography -- the considered silhouettes and quality fabrics carry through to whatever aesthetic you prefer.
5 Dress Styles
5 Dress Styles
Studio Mozart offers five styles to match your preferences, body type, and the image you want to capture. Each style's detail page shows actual photo samples and the dress lineup.
-

Casual Style
Dresses with a natural, relaxed atmosphere. For maternity photos that celebrate you as you are, drawing out an unforced, honest beauty.
-

Dressy Style
Glamorous dresses with a sense of occasion. Quality fabrics like lace and chiffon elevate the beautiful silhouette of an expecting mother. For clients who want to enjoy a different side of themselves.
-

Formal Style
Dresses with grace and poise. Perfect for clients seeking a dignified commemorative photo with a quietly composed beauty. Also popular for couple shoots.
-

Covered Style
Dresses for those who say, "I'm a little shy about showing my belly." An elegant style that beautifully shows the line of the belly through the fabric while keeping skin covered. A comfortable choice if you have stretch marks you'd prefer to keep private.
-

Draped Kimono Style
Our approach is a "draped kimono style" where the obi belt is not tightly tied. We take frequent breaks according to your condition, avoiding the strain of tight binding and long dressing sessions. The result is a uniquely Japanese maternity photo with an elegant sense of wa (harmony).
Another Option
-- Maternity Nude
Artistic Maternity Nudity

Beyond choosing a dress, there's another path.
Maternity nude (or semi-nude) photography is a style that makes the beauty of the belly's line itself the subject of the work. Not as "exposure" but as "art" -- expressing in monochrome the mystery of a body carrying life.
We often hear: "I was interested in nude or semi-nude photography, but I kept hesitating when it came time to actually do it. But for a maternity shoot, somehow I could make the decision." Photographer Komachi says, "I think it's the resolve of a woman who has taken on the task of bringing a life into the world."
Many clients add a few semi-nude shots as an extension of their dress session. We welcome clients who, during the dress shoot in the studio, decide on the day that they'd like to try nude photography as well.
White or Black?
A Dress Color Guide
White or Black Guide
The first choice most expecting mothers face is "white" or "black." And it's a bigger decision than it seems -- the color you choose fundamentally changes the feel of the photograph.
White Dresses

The whole figure rises
softly from the frame
A white dress reflects light, wrapping and brightening the entire body. In monochrome, the white of the dress blends into the background's gradient for a soft, almost mystical atmosphere. We recommend this for clients who want a gentle, warm feeling in their maternity photos.
Black Dresses

Only the skin is lifted
beautifully into view
A black dress absorbs light, bringing forward only the exposed skin -- the belly, décolleté, and arms. In monochrome, the white of the skin emerges from the dark dress with dramatic contrast, resulting in a more artistic piece. Popular among clients who want a cool, powerful impression.
Accessories & Props
Accessories
Along with dresses, the studio carries accessories and props to make your shoot more special.

Subtle Items That Frame the Belly
We stock a variety of items to accent the belly and hair: sash belts, ribbons, flower crowns, and more. The expecting mother is always the main subject, so we carefully select understated pieces that don't compete with the atmosphere of the photograph.
Bring Your Own Keepsakes
You're welcome to incorporate family keepsakes into the shoot -- ultrasound photos, first shoes, stuffed animals, and so on. Photographing alongside meaningful items results in a more personal piece. Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring items.
Shoots with Flowers

Shoots incorporating fresh flowers or dried flowers are popular. Capturing the meanings behind flower language -- "I love you," "gratitude," "hope for the future" -- adds a deeper layer to the work. We can accommodate live flower shoots at the studio; please feel free to ask.
How Dresses Are Chosen
& Bringing Your Own
How to Choose & Bring Your Own
When & How Your Dress Is Decided
Unlike a wedding dress fitting, we don't typically offer an advance visit or try-on session (though please ask if you really need one). On the day itself, during hair and makeup, you'll work with the stylist to decide on your dress. Photographer Komachi will also offer input if you'd like.
Bringing Your Own Dress
In addition to our studio dresses, you're welcome to bring favorites of your own. We also accommodate shoots in a cherished wedding dress, a maternity dress you chose yourself, or any other special piece.
Requests When Bringing Your Own
- Please let us know in advance which dress you're bringing. A photo is especially helpful for smooth styling preparation on the day.
- Depending on the fit with the shoot's aesthetic, our stylist may offer advice in advance.
Shooting with Both Studio Dresses and Your Own
We respond to requests like, "I want to wear both the everyday clothes my husband gave me as a gift, and a special studio dress." It's actually a common wish to include at least a little of a matching casual look. We ask for one main dress per shoot, but within the session's time frame (a two-hour shoot), we can add a follow-up set with a second dress (something easy to change into). Adding or removing a shawl or wrap also changes the impression significantly.
For Two Full Styles -- The Gold Plan
For clients who want to shoot two full styles, we offer a special package called the Gold Plan. For example, clients who want serious coverage of both "art nude" and "dress" styles can completely change their hair, makeup, and wardrobe for a second, entirely different look. The session runs three to four hours, producing two distinct styles with dramatically different atmospheres. This plan has become quite popular recently.
Changing Dresses on the Day
Sometimes the style you imagined in advance and the style you fall in love with at the studio turn out to be different. Day-of dress changes are flexible, so please don't worry. That said, if the dress you want has been soiled by a previous client's use, we may not be able to accommodate. If you have a strong attachment to one specific dress, we recommend reserving it in advance.
Style Guide by
Concern & Body Type
Style Guide by Body Type
"Which dress will work for me?" For clients with that question, here are some of the concerns we hear most often and the styles we recommend.
If You're Concerned About Stretch Marks
Our covered-belly dresses beautifully show the curve of the belly through the fabric while keeping skin covered. We also apply professional skin retouching to the photos selected for printing, so stretch marks and the linea nigra can be cleaned up neatly.
If You're Concerned About Upper Arms or Décolleté

We cover upper arms elegantly using a shawl or similar. For the décolleté, we recommend either clearly covering it or confidently showing it -- a half-measure tends to give the worst result, so we encourage committing to one direction or the other.
If You're Shorter in Height
For clients with shorter height, we use platform sandals and long dresses to balance the frame. During the shoot, our stylist proposes the best balance for your body -- for example, using high-waist styling to lengthen the leg line.
If You're Unsure About What to Choose
It's completely natural to feel unsure -- please relax. On the day of the shoot, our staff will draw on years of experience to offer a range of suggestions. Tell us the atmosphere and the image you want, and we'll recommend the dress that suits you best.
FAQ about Dresses
FAQ about Dress
- Will the dress size work for me?
Our dresses are designed specifically for maternity photography, so they accommodate late-term belly size. Most are free-size and fit clients from S to 3L. If you have any concerns, please feel free to consult us in advance.
- Can I try on dresses on the day of the shoot?
Yes, you choose your dress with the stylist on the day of the shoot. We do not offer advance in-person try-ons, but we welcome consultations by photo or phone anytime.
- Is it just one dress per session?
We ask for one main dress per session by default. If you want two, we first shoot the main dress thoroughly, and then -- within the session's time frame (a two-hour shoot) -- we add a follow-up set with a second dress (something easy to change into). Adding or removing a shawl or wrap also changes the mood significantly. For clients who want a truly full two-style shoot, we offer the "Gold Plan": a three-to-four-hour session with complete changes of hair, makeup, and wardrobe.
- Which dress type is the most popular?
The Dressy Style is the most popular. Many clients base their shoot on a dressy dress and then photograph two versions -- with and without a shawl.
- Can I bring my own dress?
Yes, you're very welcome to bring your own. We happily accommodate cherished pieces like a wedding dress or a maternity dress you chose yourself. If you can send us a photo in advance, it helps our styling preparation go smoothly.
- Do you provide clothing for my partner?
We do not provide clothing for partners. We recommend a simple casual style such as a white T-shirt with denim. We'll advise in advance on coordinating an outfit that lets the expecting mother -- the main subject -- shine.
Client Testimonials
about Dresses
Customer Reviews
Here are testimonials from clients who shot in our studio dresses or their own brought-in pieces.

Feedback from the Second Shoot
For the first shoot I wore a white dress with wavy hair, so on the makeup artist's advice I switched to the black version of the same dress with straight hair this time. My belly had grown a lot since the previous shoot, so I was grateful that the black made it look a bit slimmer.

Feedback from the Shoot
I had my hair and makeup done beautifully, wore a dress that showed the belly carrying my baby at its most beautiful, and was photographed in so many images that captured a beauty only an expecting mother has. It made me able to love my body with a new tenderness.

Feedback from the Shoot Day
I wanted to preserve the mysterious presence of being pregnant with a cool, striking look. I researched and landed on Studio Mozart. Because I wanted the shoot to feel powerful, I brought my own black lingerie, and my hair was set to match.

Feedback from the Shoot
We were able to capture the very best time, the very best memories, during the pregnancy and the early days with our baby. Of course, the photographs became a treasure for our whole family. We love them so much.

Feedback about Dress & Hair & Makeup
I asked the stylist to choose the dress and makeup that suited my atmosphere! I don't usually wear heavy makeup, so I was surprised at how much was applied -- but when I saw the photos, it looked so natural. I'm so glad I left it to them!
