Photo Retouching

When considering a maternity photo shoot, do you worry about stretch marks showing, or feel self-conscious about body hair or the linea nigra on your belly?
At Studio Mozart, every photograph receives professional skin retouching under the supervision of photographer Takehiro Komachi, performed by our expert retoucher. Stretch marks, body hair, skin blemishes -- we carefully refine each concern and deliver your most beautiful self as a work of art.
What matters is not "hiding flaws," but "bringing out your beauty." Because our monochrome works are timeless and never fade, our meticulous skin retouching transforms your maternity photos into treasures that last a lifetime.
Common Skin Concerns
During Pregnancy
Common Skin Concerns
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause skin changes you may never have noticed before. Before your maternity photo session, are you experiencing any of these concerns?
Belly Area Concerns
- Linea nigra -- A dark vertical line that appears on the center of the belly. Many women start noticing it from mid-pregnancy and worry about it showing in photos
- Stretch marks -- Streaky marks that appear as the belly grows. One of the biggest reasons some feel anxious about showing their belly
- Body hair -- Hormonal changes can cause increased hair growth on the belly and back
- Pigmentation around the navel -- Darkening caused by pregnancy-related pigment changes
Face & Body Concerns
- Nasolabial folds -- Swelling and weight changes during pregnancy can make these more noticeable
- Neck lines -- Often overlooked, but surprisingly visible in photographs
- Jawline -- Changes in the face shape can be a concern for many
- Underarm darkening -- Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause pigmentation in this area
- Veins on hands -- Increased blood flow can make veins more prominent
- General skin issues -- Skin condition tends to be unstable during pregnancy
All of these are signs that you are nurturing a new life.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about.
But if you feel, "Since this is a special occasion, I want to look my best" --
our retouching expertise is here to make that happen.
Photo Book Quality
for Every Client
Our Retouching Philosophy
What sets Studio Mozart's retouching apart from typical photo studios? The difference lies in our "team approach" and "finishing philosophy."
A Collaborative Team of Photographer and Expert Retoucher
Our retouching is a true collaboration: photographer Takehiro Komachi's creative vision is brought to life by an expert retoucher who has worked alongside him on photo books and advertising campaigns for years. Rather than a simple division of labor where the photographer shoots and someone else edits, they share a unified artistic vision for each piece -- and that's what creates such natural, beautiful results.
Not "Erasing," but "Refining"
Our approach doesn't artificially smooth the skin to a plastic-like finish. Instead, we carefully refine only the areas of concern while preserving the skin's natural texture. The beautiful gradations of light and shadow created by our studio lighting are maintained throughout the retouching process.
Photo Book-Quality Finishing
Every client's photographs are finished to the same standard as photographer Komachi's published photo books. Since skin retouching is applied to every delivered image, you'll never receive a photo that was left unfinished.

Linea Nigra & Body Hair on the Belly
"A dark line appeared on my belly" or "The body hair has become more noticeable" -- these are the most common concerns we hear from expectant mothers. While the linea nigra and body hair are completely natural, they can appear more prominent in monochrome photographs due to the contrast of light and shadow. Our retouching carefully refines these while preserving the skin's natural texture. Many clients tell us, "Now I feel confident showing my belly."

After
Prominent Veins & Rough Skin Texture
During pregnancy, increased blood flow can make veins on the hands and arms more visible. Hormonal changes can also cause rough skin texture. Since placing hands on the belly is a classic maternity photo pose, the appearance of the hands greatly influences the overall impression. We smooth out prominent veins and rough texture to create a beautiful finish right down to the fingertips.

Before

After
Neck Lines (Wrinkles)
Neck lines are something we rarely think about in daily life, but they can be surprisingly noticeable in photographs, especially when wearing outfits that reveal the decolletage or during nude sessions. Simply refining the neck area can make the entire face appear more youthful. We naturally smooth the neck lines while preserving the beautiful light and shadow from our studio lighting.

Before

After
Nasolabial Folds
Swelling and weight changes during pregnancy can make nasolabial folds appear deeper than usual. Rather than completely removing them, we subtly soften them to a natural degree, giving the face a refreshed, youthful impression. Whether you're smiling or wearing a relaxed expression, the beauty of your skin will shine through.

Before

After
Jawline (Wrinkles)
Changes in the face shape and wrinkles under the chin are areas that tend to be noticeable in profile shots and upward-looking poses. Our jawline retouching ensures a clean, beautiful contour from every angle. You'll feel confident no matter which direction the camera captures.

Before

After
Underarm Darkening
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause pigmentation in the underarm area. Depending on the pose or outfit, this can be a concern. By naturally evening out the skin tone, we ensure you can feel comfortable in any pose during your session. "I don't want to raise my arms because of my underarms" -- that worry is no longer necessary.

Retouching Coverage
& Areas
Retouching Coverage
"Is retouching only for the belly area?" -- This is a question we receive often. The answer is "No." Studio Mozart's retouching covers all exposed areas visible in your photographs.
Belly Area
We carefully address pregnancy-specific concerns including linea nigra, stretch marks, body hair, and pigmentation around the navel. We refine these while preserving the skin's natural texture so you can feel confident during your belly-baring session.
Face, Neck & Decolletage
Nasolabial folds, neck lines, jawline definition, skin blemishes. Retouching the facial area significantly impacts the overall impression of the photograph. This is especially important during pregnancy when swelling can occur.
Arms, Hands & Underarms
We address all exposed areas beyond the belly, including veins on the backs of hands, underarm pigmentation, and upper arm skin issues. Hands are refined to look beautiful when placed on the belly -- one of the most iconic maternity poses.
Custom Requests Welcome
In addition to our standard retouching, please feel free to let us know about any specific areas of concern. We will carefully refine the details to meet your requests.

Important Notes About Retouching
Please understand that our retouching is not about transforming you into a different person, but rather enhancing the beauty of photographs taken with carefully calculated lighting.
- We are unable to perform composite editing such as swapping the head from one photo onto another photo. Thank you for your understanding.
- Regarding double chin retouching, extremely aggressive corrections can result in an unnatural appearance. In such cases, we keep the retouching within a range that maintains a natural look. Thank you for your understanding on this point as well.
What Makes Us Different
What Makes Us Different
While many studios offer maternity photography, the quality and structure of retouching varies greatly. Please refer to the comparison below to see what sets Studio Mozart apart.

Studios where the photographer and retoucher have worked together as a long-term team are extremely rare in the maternity photography industry. The expertise and trust built through years of collaboration on photo books are reflected in every client's finished work.
Why Skin Beauty Matters
Even More in Monochrome
Monochrome & Skin Beauty
"Wouldn't skin concerns be less noticeable in black and white?" -- Actually, it's the opposite.
In color photographs, the abundance of color information disperses the viewer's attention. But monochrome photography strips away color, allowing light, shadow, and skin texture to communicate directly. In other words, monochrome makes skin texture stand out even more -- beautiful skin appears more radiant, while imperfections become more visible.
Studio Mozart is dedicated to monochrome works because we want to deliver timeless beauty that never fades over the years. And to maximize the beauty of monochrome, professional skin retouching is an essential part of the process.
Studio lighting and retouching. When these two elements come together, smooth, luminous skin emerges within the beautiful gradations of light and shadow. That is what defines a Studio Mozart monochrome work.

Customer Reviews
Here are testimonials from clients who have experienced our retouching firsthand.

First Impressions When Viewing the Selected Images
My upper arms and stretch marks weren't noticeable at all -- in fact, the artistic quality of the finish made me truly happy.
Impressions of the Final Works
I was already satisfied with the selected images, but the beautifully finished photos were like "paintings" -- true works of art.

Impressions of the Final Works
The stretch marks were beautifully preserved as special lines unique to pregnancy, while the skin was refined beautifully -- it became a truly special photograph.

Impressions of the Final Works
Both the retouching and printing were so beautiful that I was amazed. It looked like a painting, and I realized this is a quality that can only come from professional work.
Thoughts on the Maternity Photo Experience
I believe we captured once-in-a-lifetime special photographs for both our baby and for us as a couple. We're planning to move to a new home after the baby arrives, and I'm already looking forward to displaying these in our new house.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Retouching
FAQ about Retouching
- Can I have my photos finished without retouching?
Yes, absolutely. If you prefer your photos without retouching, we will complete them as they are. Some clients wish to preserve the natural changes of pregnancy, and we fully respect that choice. Please share your preferences during the pre-session consultation.
- Is there an additional charge for retouching?
Skin retouching (light retouching) is included in our photography plans at no additional charge.
- Can you remove tattoos?
Yes, we can. The results may vary depending on the size, color, and location of the tattoo, but we can naturally minimize its appearance. If you let us know before the session, we can discuss the expected results in advance. Of course, keeping your tattoo visible is also perfectly welcome.
- Can you handle cesarean section scars?
Yes, we handle scar retouching as well. Since cesarean section scars vary from person to person, we carefully assess each case during the session and finish accordingly. We also welcome requests to keep the scar visible as a meaningful record of your birth experience.
- My stretch marks are quite severe. Can they be improved?
While stretch marks vary from person to person, we have extensive experience in beautifully refining them for numerous clients. Rather than completely removing them, we aim to naturally minimize their appearance while considering the overall balance of the photograph. Please see our Before & After gallery above for actual results.
